Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President, Nu Skin Enterprises

Joseph Chang, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Nu Skin Enterprises, is an executive who enjoys a comprehensive knowledge of both the pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industries. Prior to Pharmanex, Dr. Chang served as president and chief scientific officer at Binary Therapeutics, Inc. and OsteoArthritis Sciences, Inc. He has also held various executive research management positions at Wyeth-Ayerst, Rhone Poulenc Rorer and other biotechnology companies, where he was involved in researching natural products for arthritis and cancer treatment. A prolific author, Dr. Chang has published numerous articles, reviews and books on pharmacological research during his 18 years in the health care industry.

Dr. Chang is an active member of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, American Thoratic Society and New York Academy of Sciences. He obtained his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of London and conducted post-doctoral research at The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and Hygiene.

Mark R. Bartlett, Ph.D.Mark R. Bartlett, Ph.D.
Vice President, Pharmanex Global Research and Development

Dr. Bartlett is responsible for the research development, clinical study and pharmacology of Pharmanex products. He obtained degrees in Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry from the Australian National University and a Ph.D. in Immunology and Cell Biology at the John Curtin School of Medical Research in Canberra.

Dr. Bartlett's research experience includes work in the area of cardiovascular disease with an emphasis on the role of free radicals and antioxidants, transplant research, and human autoimmune inflammatory diseases. Dr. Bartlett's research then led him to the United States' National Institutes of Health where, as a visiting scientist at the world-renowned National Cancer Institute, he investigated the interaction of T cells with the blood vessel wall. He has published more than a dozen papers on this work in various scientific journals.

Dr. Bartlett's interest in the role of nutrition in human health and disease led him to join Interior Design Nutritionals (IDN) in 1996 as a technical specialist and scientific advisor. He has since formulated many supplements and sports food products for the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Australia.

Michael N. Chang, Ph.D., is the Chief Scientific Advisor of Nu Skin Enterprises. In this position he is responsible for all research of Pharmanex products. Prior to Pharmanex, Dr. Chang served as Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Rhone Poulenc Rorer, and Deputy Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Merck. He has over 20 years of pharmaceutical experience. His previous management responsibilities included the direction of several drug discovery projects and IND submissions. His research has resulted in more than 60 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and 35 patents. Dr. Chang holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Brandeis University and completed his post-doctoral fellowship at MIT.

Richard Y.J. Tzeng Zhang De Cheng, Ph.D.
Director, Pharmanex China Research & Development

Prof. Zhang De Cheng serves as Director of China Research & Development of Pharmanex. He is mainly responsible for product research and development, coordination with the pharmacology and clinical affairs department for quality control.

After graduated from Shanghai First Medical College, Prof. Zhang lectured and conducted research in the University, with his expertise in radiation chemistry, organic chemistry, phytochemistry, and the interpretation of organic compound spectra. Invented products include "Lei Gong Teng Duo Dai" and "Deng-Zhan-Hua Capsule".

Prof. Zhang has studied in the U.S. and Japan, and authored and co-authored 30 papers. Prior to joining Pharmanex, Prof. Zhang had been the Professor and Department Head of Natural Drugs, School of Pharmacy, Shanghai Medical University; the council member of Shanghai Branch, Chinese Pharmaceutical Society and the Vice-Chairman of the Association of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products, Shanghai Branch, Chinese Pharmaceutical Society.

Director of Pharmacology and Clinical Affairs & Director of the Beijing Clinical and Pharmacology Center

Jia-Shi Zhu, Ph.D., is the Director of Pharmacology and Clinical Affairs, with expertise in medicine (western & TCM), gastroenterology, physiology, pharmacology, enzymology, and membrane protein biochemistry, and the Director of the Beijing Clinical and Pharmacology Center of Pharmanex.

Prior to Pharmanex, Dr Zhu was a consultant in Medicine and TCM, and had held various research positions in China and the U.S., including Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Institute of Medical Sciences, GI Function Testing Lab and Stanford University School of Medicine.

As a veteran in the Pharmacology and Clinical Affairs, Dr Zhu has more than 26 articles and abstracts published in peer-reviewed journals, and has attended and given more than 59 international presentations. Dr Zhu has also been awarded prestigious honors, such as the DDC research award by the Digestive Disease Center of The Stanford University and the Medical Research Award for GI Motility Studies in China. He was also members of many recognized associations such as The Protein Society, American Federation of Medical Research and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and is now member of the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr Zhu holds a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Li Yi MinDr. Min Li, Ph.D.
Associate Director, New Product Development, Shanghai Research and Development Facility, Pharmanex

Dr. Li Yi Min recently joined Pharmanex China research team as Associate Director, New Product Development in the Shanghai Research and Development facility. Dr. Li comes to Pharmanex with an extensive research and scientific background. Before joining Pharmanex, he was an associate professor at Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences and led a research team developing new drugs from traditional Chinese medicine.

Dr. Li received his Ph.D. in natural medicinal chemistry from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica in 1998. He had his postdoctoral training at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy Sciences. Later he continued his postgraduate work at University of California, Davis.

Dr. Li's research interests are in the areas of natural medicinal chemistry, especially in finding bio-active compounds from Chinese medicinal plants. He has isolated and elucidated over 100 compounds from medicinal plants and published over 40 research papers in chemistry and pharmacology.
